WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT FPC
Worship is an opportunity to honor God
with our lips and our lives. Worship happens
in a special way each time the community
of faith gathers. It is also a time to
renew our spirits and hearts, in order
to go out and live in the world as disciples
of Jesus Christ.
For the past several years the Session
has selected one of the Five Purposes for
which we exist, as individuals and as a
church, and we have focused on that purpose
throughout the year. This year, 2008, we
are concentrating on worship. We are excited
about this opportunity to grow as a congregation
in our understanding
and practice of worship- both corporately
and individually. Together we hope to learn
what scripture teaches about worship, experience
different expressions of worship, deepen
our participation in worship and carry
worship beyond that designated time on
Sunday morning to include all our waking
hours.
Throughout the year, various special times
of worship are offered (Ash Wednesday,
Maunday Thursday, September kick-off at
the Hickories Park, to name a few.) Below
is a list
of regular
weekly corporate times of worship here
at FPC. While each service
encourages the active participation of
worshipers, they are done
in different ways.
CONTEMPORARY
WORSHIP SERVICE (Sundays, 9:09 am)
Our "9:09" service is a less formal
service of song and praise. At this service
there
is an extended time of corporate singing
led by a worship team, during which people
are invited to worship God in the way that
is most comfortable to each person. This
may include standing or sitting, clapping
or lifting your hands, or simply offering
praise in the quiet of your heart. All
are acceptable forms of worship. The Word
of God is proclaimed through a variety
of ways including sermons, people sharing
their faith, or the use of technology such
as film clips and original video clips.
Child care is provided for infants through kindergarten.
TRADITIONAL
WORSHIP SERVICE (Sundays, 10:45 am)
The "10:45" service is rich in the meaningful
traditions of Reformed worship. Liturgy
and prayers, music, a children's sermon,
scripture and sermon are all woven together
to form an integrated service. “Worship
is often enriched by special music provided
by the Chancel and Mary El Bell choirs, “A
Touch of Brass” and other instrumentalists,
musical and dramatic presentations by the
children, and other special programs.”
Child care is provided for infants through two year olds. Three year olds
through High School participate in Kids Zone.
