Devotion
for Wednesday
Today we fly to Masai Mara to begin our safari.
What a contrast to the first part of our trip! The Sekenani Safari
Camp is operated in conjunction with twenty six Masai families
who have a share in the business. It is the logistical center
for a community development project developing infrastructure
for health-care, veterinary services, education and clean water
for people living around the reserve.
Mission volunteer Marian Strain serves at
the Presbyterian Teachers College-Rubate
in rural Kenya. She writes that for many of the poor farmer
families of the region, a teaching
certificate is the path to a better life. “They struggle
daily to exist. A person harvesting maize (corn) makes 80 Kenyan
shillings ($1.08) a day. . . They struggle not only to make a
meager life but also to help the students advance their potential
by sending them to Rubate to get a teaching certificate.” (2001
Mission Yearbook of the PC(USA), p. 38) “If you offer your food to the hungry . . .
then your light shall rise in the darkness.” (Isaiah 58:10)
Pray for God to show you ways that you can help relieve the meager
existence of people in Kenya.
Pray for Tim D. specifically today. |
