Sunday, April
19th
Doug called with the following update:
-
The team attended the Church of the Torch as honored
guests (meaning they were privileged to sit up front)
and the pastors shared in prayers.
- They went to lunch at a regular restaurant (the "Rusty Nail").
- Many of the group rested in the afternoon while others walked
around and saw old friends. (They relayed that it was good
to see friends and reconnect.)
- Now they are preparing for tomorrow when they will be traveling
three hours to work on classrooms and will be staying overnight
in people's homes.
- The group as a whole is having a great time. Newer members to
the team are amazed at how happy the people over in Kenya
are with how little they have.
The group is very appreciative of our prayers and will be working
at getting the internet connection going so they can send
some more updates and pictures. Devotion for Sunday
On our first Sunday in Kenya, the team will worship
at the Church of the Torch in Kikuyu. We will then have a chance
to relax a bit and recover from the trip and jet lag. It is our
hope that Dr. Salvador de la Torre and his wife, Irma, will be
able to join us for dinner. Salvador is a PCUSA missionary and
the project manager for the U.S. government-sponsored aid program
for people with HIV/AIDS, which is called PEPFAR, the President’s
Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. In this role, Salvador makes sure
that patients with HIV get the drugs and the equipment necessary
for anti-retroviral therapy for HIV. Irma helps the Presby. Church
of Eastern Africa set up primary schools and builds community
leadership.
“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship
the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.” (Psalm 100:1-2)
Pray for this day of worship and celebration- both in Kenya and
at FPC. Walter Kondratowski will be preaching.
Pray specifically for Allison
P. today.
